St. Vincent de Paul will hold their annual collection next weekend 11th & 12th December. The Prosperous Conference of S.V.P. visit people in need each week. Unfortunately for many people it can just take one small problem to tip someone into crisis and poverty. It can be an unexpected illness or unexpected bill – but a little help at the right time can stop a domino effect leading to a family experiencing prolonged hardship. Last year the conference helped with school and college fees along with providing heat and food for families. By supporting our appeal you can help a family through this winter and help them get back on their feet. Thank you for your support – without your help we simply would not be able to support our fellow parishioners. We have also placed St Vincent de Paul collection boxes in our local Post Office and Londis Supermarket, here in Prosperous.
The diocese of Kildare & Leighlin have prepared some useful ideas for Advent. We will have a weekly bulletin printed and left in our church porch. These resources will also be added weekly to the advent page on Kandle www.kandle.ie/advent-resources/
Last call for our Christmas Shoebox Appeal – our deadline has been extended to Tuesday next 16th November. You can make a difference.
The family altar list of the dead will be renewed during the month of November. Mass will be offered two days a week for the names on the list. You will find a purple envelope along with a pious list in your box of weekly envelopes. Please write down the names of your loved ones and place them in this envelope and return it at Mass or drop it in to the Parish Office. Extra envelopes are available in the church porch if you do not already have one.
November is a month for remembering our loved ones who have died. Once again this year we have our ‘Tree of Life’ up near the altar. I invite people to come and take a label and write down the names of their loved ones and hang it on a branch. I also encourage people to light a candle daily at home and offer one Hail Mary for those whom we have loved and lost. Please continue to follow the HSE guidelines when visiting our church.
We cannot but speak about what we have seen and heard. In the Holy Father’s message for World Mission Sunday 2021, he says: ‘Jesus needs hearts capable of experiencing vocation as a true love story that urges them to go forth to the peripheries of our world as messengers and agents of compassion’. The world is in crisis. In many poorer parishes in Africa, Asia, and Latin America it is overseas missionaries who are on the front line. Show them your support. Donate €4.00 by texting the word ‘Mission’ to 50300. Alternatively donate at www.missio.ie or call Missio Ireland on 01 497 2035. There is also an envelope in your box of weekly envelopes for Mission Sunday. Missio Ireland is the Holy Father’s official charity for overseas mission. Through your generosity they support missionaries who are caring for some of the most vulnerable communities in the world.
